Shock Media LAN party: Competition and Fun!

Last Friday, the Shock office was once again the stage for the renowned Shock LAN-party! A fridge stocked with energy drinks, plenty of snacks, and atmospheric lighting set the perfect scene for this competitive evening.

Preparation

The members of the staff association had made sure that part of the office was sectioned off and equipped with all the essentials for a LAN party. Throughout the day, more and more gaming PCs appeared on the tables—each more impressive than the last—and the playing field became increasingly illuminated with RGB lighting.

The run-up to a LAN party at Shock always sparks healthy rivalry among colleagues. There’s plenty of discussion about the various games, speculation about who will win the trophies, and challenges are enthusiastically taken up.

As always, we made sure to kick off the evening with a delicious meal. This time, we had a returning favorite: a fries truck!

Round 1: The Shooter Competition

As always, we started the evening with three competitions. We kicked off with the shooter competition, which was divided into two phases with two different games. The preliminary round was played in Counter-Strike: Source, where the top four players from each team advanced to the next round. The final for the title of “Shock Media FPS King” took place in Unreal Tournament 2004, and in the end, Masseh crowned himself the ultimate winner!

Round 2: The Racing Competition

After the exciting shooter competition, it was time to start the virtual engines with SuperTuxKart. In this racing game, participants competed for the trophy, with the top two racers from each round advancing. In the final, Dave emerged as the winner with a comfortable lead!

Round 3: The Fun Competition

The fun competition is always a surprise and can feature any imaginable game. This evening, we chose an old school classic: Worms: Armageddon! In groups of four, participants battled for a spot in the next round, where strategic thinking was essential. After several rounds, Niels emerged as the big winner!

After the Competitions

After the competitions, the LAN party continued with a wide range of games. From intense competitions like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Trackmania to relaxing games like Portal 2 and The Sims. There was something for everyone, including an unplugged section with games such as 30 Seconds, card games, and other board games.

The diehards stayed until the next morning. It was a great success, and we can’t wait to plan the next edition!
