Meet… Bouke!

Whether you want to play a game of darts, test your football skills in speed soccer, or raise a glass together during Friday afternoon drinks: this cheerful sales star is always there. Chances are you’ve already spoken to him through one of our channels. In this blog, I’d like to introduce you to: Bouke!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m Bouke, 35 years old, and I live with my girlfriend Merle and our son Tommy in Weerselo. Ever since I was a child, I’ve always said that I wanted to work with computers. That’s exactly what I’ve done, both as a job and as a hobby. Besides tinkering with computers (for friends, family, and acquaintances), you can often find me on the football fields of UD Weerselo in my free time, I can get hooked on a good TV series, and I love to travel. Together with my girlfriend, I’ve visited several parts of the world, but we also enjoy wonderful trips within Europe with friends.

How did you end up at Shock Media?

I was approached by Denise from HR via LinkedIn. At first, I wasn’t interested, but thanks to Denise’s persistence, I agreed to come by for a cup of coffee. I haven’t regretted that decision for a single moment.

What did you do/study before this?

I studied ICT Management at the ROC in Hengelo. After getting my diploma, I started working at a computer shop. In the years that followed, I spent quite some time searching for what really suited me. Because of this, I’ve gained broad knowledge and experience, which comes in very handy in my role at Shock Media.

What exactly is your role at Shock Media, and what does it involve?

At Shock Media, I’m an account manager. Together with my colleagues Kevin, Gerben, and Justin, I am responsible for the Sales department, and I mainly handle inside sales tasks. This is also what I personally prefer. Because we have a clear division of tasks, we all know exactly where we stand and who does what. The inside sales tasks mainly involve preparing and following up on quotes, and having conversations with new and existing clients. In addition to my inside sales duties, I also take on many administrative tasks. This just happened naturally, as I find it fulfilling and enjoy doing these tasks. The great thing about working at Shock Media is that there’s plenty of room to take on tasks you enjoy. For example, besides these activities, I’m also involved this week with our internal audit for our ISO certifications.

Which skills and qualities do you think are important for a good account manager in IT?

It’s very important to stay up to date with the latest technologies. So I always try to join (internal) trainings and meetings about our services. On a personal level, it’s also very important to really know your client and give them personal attention. I also always like to give honest advice to clients and build a trusting relationship that way.

What does a day at Shock Media look like for you?

No day is the same, but I always start with a nice cup of coffee and a chat with colleagues to kick off the day. After that, I always go through the tickets and try to pick up new and ongoing tickets as soon as possible. The rest depends on what the day brings. Sometimes I have one or more (digital) calls with a client, and sometimes I spend a large part of the day on administrative tasks.

What types of clients do you encounter, and how do you build strong, lasting relationships with them?

Most of the clients I encounter are those for whom their website and/or application is very important, and who have full confidence in the knowledge and quality of our services—which I believe is more than justified.

How do you deal with challenges such as competition and changing market conditions?

Although I’ve been working at Shock Media for almost a year now, I don’t really see competition as a challenge. I know that we deliver top quality in our field, and when it comes to price/quality, we rarely lose to a competitor. We also actively respond to any changing market conditions and keep a close eye on these developments.

What makes working at Shock Media so special?

At Shock Media, you’re definitely not just a number and your efforts are truly appreciated. All colleagues get along well, and I can honestly say the working atmosphere at Shock Media is just perfect.

Why should people apply for a job at Shock Media?

Because Shock Media really is a great company to work for, where your efforts are genuinely valued. And let’s not forget the fun colleagues and the super enjoyable parties and activities.
