The healthy tension had been palpable all week among colleagues and was intense during practice rounds in the breaks… The fourth LAN party became a reality on Friday, October 28! At the Shock Media office, there was warmth, healthy competition, and a fantastic atmosphere all evening long.
Buzzing
All week, there was a buzz in the office that something was about to happen. All the servers for the games were brought online, and here and there, colleagues were already playing practice matches during breaks… you don’t want to be outdone by your coworkers, of course! On the day itself, a space was created in the middle of the office with desks for all the gaming setups people brought, made cozy with RGB lights and Christmas lights. Around six thirty, the Chinese caterer arrived with the food, and that’s when the fun could really begin! There was something for everyone, and soon everyone was chatting over a plate of food. After a solid meal, the competitions could kick off!
Competition
Three games were played in the competition: CS Go, Mario Kart, and Beat Saber. Everyone was divided into groups and rotated through all the games. Some colleagues had played the games many times, while others had never played them before. Luckily, that didn’t matter and sometimes even led to lots of hilarity.
All the groups finished their rounds of the games, and then it was time for the finals. The best from each game played against each other. In the end, only three could be the very best. They later received their well-deserved prizes during the award ceremony. Their trophies now have a place of honor on their desks… until they have to defend their titles at the next LAN!
Garry’s Mod
After the competitions, a spontaneous and intense game of hide-and-seek broke out in Garry’s Mod. In this game, a group of ‘hunters’ has to find the hiders within a certain amount of time… but the hiders can disguise themselves as all sorts of objects in the game, like a filing cabinet or a newspaper! Before long, phrases like “I see a can flying by!!” and “Which filing cabinet did I just see move?” were flying around the room. It led to lots of laughter and hilarity. One colleague shared his brilliant technique: “I ran down the stairs as a can when he chased me, and then I quickly changed into a newspaper to slide under the desk—they couldn’t find me anymore!”
Great Success
